Roy Smith, published author most recently from “New Hope Beat Poets” was the MC in addition to reading of his work. We had a number of talented poets and musicians join us.

We recently had a dedication ceremony at Earth Center Pottery welcoming the new totem pole, complete with Native American Ceremonial Drums. The totem pole project is the brain child of local artist Marla Levy, who engaged many of her fellow potters in the creation of various ceramic pieces that make up this 12-foot-tall totem pole representing Marla’s experiences at Earth Center Pottery and including the work of over 15 potters. The installation is dedicated to Holly Walter, who was one of the creators that is no longer with us.

“Love Nourishes Seeds of Creativity”

The totem is an embodiment of the Earth Center Pottery and was created out of a love of the art center. Within the totem you can see the faces of the people that come here, the fire ball, some gears representing the constant work and the turning of new ideas, the leaves representing growth and growing of new projects and new relationships. Our resident cat-spirit Woody who watches over totem while keeping his eye on a tiny mouse below holding an acorn.

We hope the totem greets the students as they enter and says pssst… “here is a little taste of the magic that happens inside.”
