You Can Make It – Sewing Class
Learn to sew by starting with a basic skirt and advance step by step to a tailored jacket. Students with no prior experience can begin with the basics and build their skills through 7 levels of instruction. Those with prior sewing skills can enter the program at a higher level.
LEVEL 1
Learn all about patterns, sizes and guide sheets.
Learn to lay out fabric, cut, mark and sew.
Learn to operate a sewing machine and make a
gathered skirt with elasticized waist.
LEVEL 2
Learn to sew darts, pleats, tucks, zippers, waistbands,
vents, slits, snaps, buttons, hooks and eyes, velcro and
more. Learn how to fit your waist and hips while making
a classic fitted skirt with zipper and waistband.
LEVEL 3
Learn to sew facings, simple sleeves and collars, front
closures, ruffles, lace, trims, pockets. Learn special
seams to use on delicate fabrics. You will make an
easy fit blouse with sleeves and collar.
LEVEL 4
Learn to sew with stripes and large prints, match plaids,
work with piping and stitched elastic. You will make a
classic jumper or dress with a center back zipper.
LEVEL 5
Learn to make pants and shorts. Learn about napped
fabrics, corduroy and velvet. Make cuffs, lapped zippers,
belt carriers, invisible zippers and flat felled seams.
You will make a pair of pants with front lapped zipper
and pockets.
LEVEL 6
Learn soft tailoring techniques . Learn to set in sleeves,
make neck bands , collars, plackets, button cuffs and
special closures. Make a classic tailored blouse with
collar, button down front, set in sleeves with placket
and buttoned cuffs.
LEVEL 7
Learn the fundamentals of tailoring. Learn to make
bound button holes, welt pockets, notched collars, and
linings. Make a jacket with lining, front buttons, pockets
and notched collar.

The fee for all adult You Can Make It Classes is $20.00 per week sold in blocks of 4 lessons. The class is ongoing. You may stay in for one level or all levels
