Students will get a chance to play together in a relaxed setting while understanding the different dynamics of a drum circle (loud vs soft, fast tempo vs slow tempo, variations of patterns, etc). World rhythms will be discussed and demonstrated, such as African and Latin beats, while the children will also have space to create his or her own patterns. Percussive instruments will be provided or bring your own. We will even experiment with making our own instrument. 

Ages 8-12 1230-3pm Alix Paul

This is a week program designed for the interested high school student that wants to improve their drawing skills, start or improve their portfolio. With a focus on improving their drawing and developing strong compositions and layouts, along with learning how to use color in a harmonious way, assignments like landscapes, figure drawing, and charcoal portraits are just some of the work they will be doing. Students will also be exposed to valuable admission information and requirements from visiting representatives of several area Art schools and Universities. Students will be notified on what materials they will need on the first day of class.

Paper Mache artist Oz Freedgood will introduce you to all of the everyday objects that are made through this widely used technique. Use your imagination to create useful and decorative items out of recycled objects such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, and newspaper. The finished items will include bowls or plates, refrigerator magnets, masks, and sculptures.

Ages 5-8 1230-3pm Alix Paul

Bring your ordinary tee’s, sweats, and jeans are we’ll transform them through techniques with airbrush, tie-die, paint and accessories to create art wear you will be proud to call your own. Students should bring 2 100% cotton t-shirts and any jeans/sweats they would want to use the first day.

Ages 10+ 1230-3pm Gwen Stevenson

Join us as we make beautiful summer sculptures using the willow branch. Branches are soaked , then loosley woven and twisted together forming a 3 dimensional piece. Students may chose to add pieces of transparent stretchy material such as colored stocking or fishnet and weave other materials into open areas of the sculpture emphasizing spacial planes while learning about 3D design. Classes will take place outside, weather permitting.

Ages 12+ 930am-12pm Gina Tavelli

We will learn new songs and styles of music and then explore the way it influences our projects through a combination of live and recorded music as well as painting and drawing. It will be an active way to learn about new styles of music and to express our feelings in different works of art. The classes always end with a jam session!

Ages 4-8 930am-12pm Juli Cosack

Come join us as we learn about the mysterious animals that inhabit the tropical rainforests.  Combining drawing, painting, and colorful tissue paper, we’ll create such animals as the toucan, scarlet macaw and the poison dart frog for a rainforest collage in the style of childrens author and illustrator Eric Carle.

Ages 7-12 930am-12pm   Gwen Stevenson

Exploring the relationship between music and movement through various activities, campers will use the outdoors for room to move! Children will be challenged to listen carefully to rhythm and volume as well as lyrics in engaging games (such as using a parachute!). The music will include old favorites and originals with an acoustic guitar. The classes always end with a jam session!

 Ages 4-8 10am-1230pm Juli Cosack

Students will discuss the historical background and learn about accomplished stain glass artists along with the principles of color, placement, composition and pattern. Using cut glass, foil and a soldering iron, students will have the freedom to create a final project of their choice.
