A Kid’s Best Friend
June 25-29
We’ll spend the week creating art based on our favorite pet or animal. Students are asked to bring in photos to share with everyone and to maybe tell a story or two. Then we will use the photos to inspire a watercolor painting, a soft sculpture and small clay figurines. We’ll even invite some of our friends for a visit!

The Mask I Wear…

Explore the cultural and artistic background of mask making. Students will be involved with hands on materials and techniques such as, clay, plaster, paint and mold-making in addition to creating many forms and colors of paper pulp. This is an awesome, fun and easy way to make unique works of art and express ourselves.

Summer’s Eve Shawl

Learn the ancient art of Japanese nuno technique using silk chiffon as the fabric into which soft fibers are felted. Combinations of silk and wool can produce feather weight garments with exotic textures; perfect for summer events.

Open Drawing Studio

A comprehensive introduction to drawing for beginner’s+. Learn and develop the 4 basic shapes, how to use shadows, the measurements for figure drawing, as well as how to use 1 and 2 point perspective. We will draw from actual still life set-ups working in an open studio atmosphere.

Kings, Queens and Castles
June 25-29
Learning about elements of castle architecture such as turrets, moats, arches and dungeons, we’ll create a paper mâché fortress complete with drawbridge and towers. Then we’ll sculpt medieval knights and royalty or characters from Beauty and the Beast to roam our architecture wonder. Take home a playhouse of fun that will last through the summer!

Discover Printmaking Magic
July 2-6 (4 days)
We’ll take elements from nature and the Park around us to create awesome rubbings and print collages. Then we’ll carve our own designs out of soap to block print on paper and fabric (bring a shirt!). Next we will make marbleized papers with our favorite colors and techniques and learn to make a gesso print from our favorite photograph. All in all, a week that will teach you design techniques and processes you will use forever!

Garden Creations

Decorate your backyard with your own masterpieces! Design a mosaic stepping stone, paint and embellish a birdhouse, decoupage a flower pot and make a wind chime while learning techniques of creating art and making your garden beautiful along the way.

Fun In The Sun

We’ll move outside for this week of creating that is more appropriate for the outdoors! Have you ever painted with a squirt gun? Or made a pool print? Children will also learn a unique way of doing spin art and finish the week by making a tie dyed t-shirt. (Students should bring a 100% cotton t-shirt on the first day for dying)

The Art of Painted Furniture
July 2-6 (4 days) $125
Breathe some new life into an old piece of furniture by re-designing it with a little paint and some fresh new ideas. We’ll look at various types of painted furniture and then develop a design for our own. From abstract painting, to stencils or even decoupage, we will each bring home a newly decorated creation to treasure and use at the same time! Students should bring an old piece of distressed furniture on the first day. $10 materials fee.

Building a Marionette & Pottery

Building a Marionette
Come experience an exciting creative class design for students ages 10 & up. Students will build their own personnel Marionette that they design. Many steps of construction like sewing, molding clay heads and stringing them on to dowels will happen as well as taking a look at the history and the beginnings of Marionettes all the way up to contemporary puppet making and their performers. Student will discover the magic and mysteries of Marionette building and construct their very own to take home.
Each participant will create fun and functional clay pieces such as garden art, plates, mugs, animal banks and many other wheel thrown and hand built clay projects. In addition to creating with clay, students will explore glazing and firing techniques using highfired stoneware clay at Earth Center Potteries fully equipped, professional studio. The final day of Camp, the students will take part in an outdoor pottery firing in a Raku Kiln, a Japanese Technique. Experience this ancient and enticing art form first hand!
Artistic Expressions and Sign Language & Pottery
Full Day Week $275
Campers will receive introductory American Sign Language instruction and learn the manual Alphabet and other basic signs as well as supplemented, coordinated art projects. We will explore the works of selected artists and how Patterns and Symbols are reflected in their creations. Projects will focus on the use of patterns in making projects such as mosiac, nature rubbings/collages and doodle art drawings.

Green Kids

These days we are all concerned with reusing items rather than sending them to the landfill. In this camp we will make some cool crafts while we recycle. We’ll make a neat lantern using a wine bottle; and a beautiful glass wind chime that can hang in the garden or a sunny window, then fire glass in a kiln to use as a pendant or keychain. We’ll have fun creating beautiful art while doing our part for the environment. $50 MATERIALS FEE

Open Painter’s Studio
July 23-27
Students will choose their medium, either oils or acrylic. This will be an open studio session where each person works to develop his style, while further developing their skills at composition, texture, color usage, perspective and use of light and shadow. Appropriate for beginners and also those with experience with the mediums. The student will choose their subject matter and work from Still Life, Photographs or even some Plein Aire painting outside of our studio! Students will bring their own basic set of acrylic or oil paints. May be repeated more than one week.

A Week in Provence

Based on family trips to The South of France, we will learn about the culture, traditions and art of this region. We’ll create a 3D painting of a sunflower field and learn the story of the “Santon” while making a clay figurine. We’ll even make lavender soap and learn to play the popular game of Petangue!

We’ll learn to draw a thoroughbred horse, design jockey silks, and paint a Degas inspired horse racing painting. On the last day we’ll celebrate the Kentucky Derby with a mint iced tea party and art opening.

Beginner’s Stained Glass

Students will discuss the historical background and learn about accomplished stain glass artists along with the principles of color, placement, composition and pattern. Using cut glass, foil and a soldering iron, students will have the freedom to create a final project of their choice.

Music and Movement Boogie Woogie

Exploring the relationship between music and movement through various activities, campers will use the outdoors for room to move! Children will be challenged to listen carefully to rhythm and volume as well as lyrics in engaging games (such as using a parachute!). The music will include old favorites and originals with an acoustic guitar. The classes always end with a jam session!

Enter The Rainforest…

Come join us as we learn about the mysterious animals that inhabit the tropical rainforests. Combining drawing, painting, and colorful tissue paper, we’ll create such animals as the toucan, scarlet macaw and the poison dart frog for a rainforest collage in the style of childrens author and illustrator Eric Carle.

Paint to the Music!

We will learn new songs and styles of music and then explore the way it influences our projects through a combination of live and recorded music as well as painting and drawing. Willow Sculpture
July 30-Aug 3
Join us as we make beautiful summer sculptures using the willow branch. Branches are soaked , then loosley woven and twisted together forming a 3 dimensional piece. Students may chose to add pieces of transparent stretchy material such as colored stocking or fishnet and weave other materials into open areas of the sculpture emphasizing spacial planes while learning about 3D design. Classes will take place outside, weather permitting.

From Plain to Rad

Bring your ordinary tee’s, sweats, and jeans are we’ll transform them through techniques with airbrush, tie-die, paint and accessories to create art wear you will be proud to call your own. Students should bring 2 100% cotton t-shirts and any jeans/sweats they would want to use the first day.

March to a Different Drummer

Join in on the fun and experience of the root of where all music sprouted. Students will get a chance to play together in a relaxed setting while understanding the different dynamics of a drum circle (loud vs soft, fast tempo vs slow tempo, variations of patterns, etc). World rhythms will be discussed and demonstrated, such as African and Latin beats, while the children will also have space to create his or her own patterns. Percussive instruments will be provided or bring your own. We will even experiment with making our own instrument. Parents are invited to a performance the last day of camp.

Fun and FUNctional Paper Mache

Paper Mache artist Oz Freedgood will introduce you to all of the everyday objects that are made through this widely used technique. Use your imagination to create useful and decorative items out of recycled objects such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, and newspaper. The finished items will include bowls or plates, refrigerator magnets, masks, and sculptures.

Portfolio Development

This is a week program designed for the interested high school student that wants to improve their drawing skills, start or improve their portfolio. With a focus on improving their drawing and developing strong compositions and layouts, along with learning how to use color in a harmonious way, assignments like landscapes, figure drawing, and charcoal portraits are just some of the work they will be doing. Students will also be exposed to valuable admission information and requirements from visiting representatives of several area Art schools and Universities. Students will be notified on what materials they will need on the first day of class.
